NextGen cultivates the virtues of sport

At the beginning of September, the Ladies Charity Cup was held at the Golf Club of the Domaine Imperial in Gland, which enabled the donation of 10,500 francs to Sport for Life. This foundation, chaired by Guy Forget, promotes the values of sport among young people.

Co-founder of NextGen, Philippe Dziurzynski is a sports lover. A jack-of-all-trades, he plays squash and trains for the Escalade race with his colleagues. He also played football for several years. But his real passion is tennis! “I’ve been playing it for over thirty years,” he says. “I train two to three times a week and, in September, I spent a week in Patrick Mouratoglou’s academy (Serena Williams’ ex-coach), in the south of France, with my best friend.” He admits that he sometimes forgets the notion of pleasure to become an outstanding competitor.

Yet Philippe Dziurzynski recognises the benefits of sport – especially for children. “It strengthens mental and physical health; it makes you feel better in your daily life and you feel more fulfilled. For me, in any case, sport has given me a lot! When he was looking for an association to support during Ladies Charity Day – which took place on 6th September at the Golf Club du Domaine Impérial, in Gland – he immediately thought of Sport for Life. Created in 2009, this foundation is chaired by Guy Forget, two-time Davis Cup winner and former director of the Roland Garros Tournament.

Life principles

“Sport for Life is driven by four values: respect, solidarity, passion and perseverance,” explains Philippe Dziurzynski. “These are values that speak to me and guide me on a daily basis! And I think it’s important to instill them in children from an early age…”. Sponsored by several ambassadors such as Amélie Mauresmo and Patrick Müller, the foundation has set up four programs – Commitment, Awareness, Accompaniment and Solidarity – which will help all these young people to “acquire life principles that will promote their personal and social development”.

The Ladies Charity Day raised CHF 10,500 for Sport for Life. “NextGen is taking care of all the costs of organising this day, from the welcome gift to the snack offered at hole 10,” explains Philippe Dziurzynski. “We donated all the fees paid by the competitors to the foundation. This is the second year that NextGen has supported this 100% women’s golf competition. In 2021, for its first edition, the company chose to support the Partage Foundation at a time when Geneva was facing the precarity of its inhabitants.

A Virtuous circle

“During the pandemic, we saw that, in a canton as rich as ours, people did not have enough to eat,” Philippe Dziurzynski points out. “And we were able to measure all the work done by Partage at that time…”. NextGen has continued to help the foundation by participating in Samedis du Partage and by inviting its employees sort out food items in its warehouse. In its eyes, this commitment is essential. It is part of the company’s DNA. It will even take on a special flavour in 2023 with the creation of the NextGen Foundation. “Every day, I realise that I am lucky to live in Switzerland, in Geneva, and to have a healthy family. It is therefore our duty to reach out to people who have not been as lucky as we have been…”

Although NextGen is looking after its visibility, this is not its primary aim. “For us, this kind of event allows us to show who we are and what values we defend on a daily basis,” underlines Philippe Dziurzynski. “So, we don’t go out on the green and try to canvass the ladies. We focus our communication on our three Cs – for customers, colleagues, and community. The idea is to have a good time, to create a virtuous circle so that everyone wins… »
